New Look Savoy Signals Green Evolution
Energy management experts Evolve Energy will help London's famous Savoy Hotel save 3,000 tonnes of CO2 each year following its £250 million refurbishment.
The business, which also has offices in London, Preston and Manchester, has designed and installed a range of cutting edge conservation tools and state of the art energy management systems that will reduce the new-look Savoy's consumption by 40 per cent.
The story of the hotel's refurbishment will be aired on ITV1 as part of a two-part documentary which starts on 13 December.
Evolve's engineers worked directly with the hotel to develop innovative energy saving techniques which includes using excess heat from kitchen appliances such as refrigeration units to reheat hot water.
In addition, Evolve installed an automated energy management system which includes smart metering and 24-hour energy consumption monitoring.
Overall, the Savoy's reliance on the energy grid has been cut in half with its annual carbon savings the equivalent to the energy used to heat over 2,000 homes.
Evolve - which provides energy management solutions for organisations such as Center Parcs and the Co-Operative - will now provide ongoing energy targeting and maintenance services to the Savoy following its reopening.
Neil Fright, Managing Director of Evolve Energy, said "Energy prices are set increase by a quarter of the next decade and so large commercial users such as hotels need to act now to offset the risk.
At just 288 rooms the Savoy is by no means the largest of London's hotels, but the capacity for energy savings in its refurbishment were huge.
There is enormous untapped potential for carbon savings in hundreds of hotels across the UK, and with careful design, implementation and ongoing monitoring these can be captured, with significant cost savings delivered too".
